Open to the public in mid November 2000, the Langs Hotel in Glasgow is a new departure both in design and concept for the hotel industry. Bute Fabrics, Scotland's contemporary upholstery manufacturer based on the nearby Isle of Bute, has been highly involved in the project, providing no less than seven fabrics from the Bute Collection for upholstery throughout the scheme designed by PJM Group.

The hotel restaurant features Clyde, a hardwearing piece-dye in shades of green, blue and cream. In the 100 bedrooms a selection of Tiree, a high profile boucle, Elgin, a tonal worsted crepe, and Inverness, a fine worsted pattern, have been used in a wide range of hues which have been colour-themed by floor. [There are also three sumptuous-themed suites (pop-art, natural and metallic) on the top floor offering unique views into the city for guests requiring complete privacy] The reception area features leather seating on which Dunbar, a high textural contrast fabrics, has been used to upholster scatter cushions. And finally, in the bar Tiree has been chosen in a subtle shade of lilac.

Following extensive international research into hotel culture, the Langs' founders, John and Bridget Brannan, have developed a wholly new experience for visitors which it is hoped will provide a blueprint for the future of the contemporary hotel. This incorporates an extensive 'Oshi' or 7,000 ft2 urban retreat in which guests are encouraged to relax and enjoy a more sensuous experience than normally 'allowed' in a hotel. Very much in line with the Brannan's market research, the visual and tactile appeal of Bute fabrics is a positive addition throughout the interior of the 100 bedroom hotel.

The Brannans selected their hometown of Glasgow for their first development as, they claim, the city is progressive and open to new ideas. Bute Fabrics certainly concur with their attitude and wish them well in their new enterprise.
